According to the recent press release of the retail giant, Amazon disclosed that they are selling their Kindle products like hotcakes with over a million sales per week over the last three weeks. Amazon’s new $199 Kindle Fire, which accounts for the biggest share of those sales is also making a huge contribution. Amazon’s VP in charge for Kindle products Dave Limp said that, “Kindle Fire is the most successful product we’ve ever launched – it’s the bestselling product across all of Amazon for 11 straight weeks, we’ve already sold millions of units, and we’re building millions more to meet the high demand.”
Although the sales of Kindle may have been enhanced due to the fact that the retail giant added different competitive models to their product line this year which include the basic Kindle, Kindle Touch 3G, Kindle Touch, the Kindle Keyboard 3G, Kindle Keyboard, and Kindle Fire Tablet, the latter is certainly one of their most successful product they have ever launched. It is quite impressive given the various reports and reviews about Kindle Fire’s supposed problems with purchase security and the recent issue with the Carousel as well as the slow web browsing capability. The company however is set to introduce an online software update which is supposed to correct all these problems and hopefully attract more customers to buy their Kindle Fire.
On the other hand, Amazon is facing a difficult competition with Barnes and Noble. The company recently refreshed their line of Nook e-book readers in time for the holiday season although Kindle Fire is still offering a more compelling price point of just $199 for its tablet while the Nook tablet is available at $249 apiece. However, the Nook Color which sells for $199 recently just got its software update which added up to one hundred feature enhancements like access to popular apps, top music and video services, comics, and a whole lot more including real time Netflix streaming. Most of these features were only available with the Nook tablet but now the Nook Color has a much longer battery life, faster processor, doubled storage capacity and enhanced RAM speed. This is certainly a serious completion for the Kindle Fire and according to analyst, they have to offer something big for their Kindle Fire software update to ensure loyalty from their market share.
Although the sale of Kindle models including Kindle Fire has been disclosed in small details, Dave Limp added that, “Our family of Kindle e-ink readers are close behind Kindle Fire on the Amazon.com bestseller list. Customers continue to report preferring their Kindle e-reader for long-form reading, and in fact we’ve seen many customers buy two Kindles – both a Kindle Fire and a Kindle or Kindle Touch – this holiday season.”
